Marine lakes are one of Earth’s most unique ecosystems: once a part of the ocean, they became isolated by volcanic eruptions and set off on their own evolutionary course.

The Film

While the most famous such lake is Palau’s Jellyfish Lake, there are around 200 other such lakes around the planet and many contain subspecies of jellyfish found nowhere else. Follow the team to Raja Ampat, Indonesia, where scientist Dr. Lisa Becking makes landfall, trekking up a rough mountain path to dive in a hidden lake and capture samples of one-of-a-kind creatures for evaluation in our marine lab.
