SINGAPORE – September 16, 2024: Global ocean exploration nonprofit, OceanX, an operating program of Dalio Philanthropies, and No.17 foundation, a nonprofit arm of purpose-led multinational business, TPC (Tsao Pao Chee), have announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to jointly develop pioneering new approaches to revolutionize ocean research and conservation and fuel leadership development to find new solutions for restoring nature. Both Dalio Philanthropies and TPC are members of Temasek Trust’s Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA) and are Community Leads of PAA’s Blue Oceans Community – a funders’ collective dedicated to scaling Asia-focused solutions for the conservation and sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources.
“This partnership with No. 17 Foundation is a powerful alignment of our shared vision to drive meaningful change in ocean conservation,” said Mark Dalio, Founder and Co-CEO at OceanX. “By combining our resources and expertise, we are not only enhancing our leadership development programs for future ocean leaders who will make a significant impact on our planet’s health, we also are fuelling new solutions to the most pressing ocean challenges through long-term research and innovation. We believe that through strategic collaboration, we can amplify our efforts and create a ripple effect of positive change.”
The MOU outlines a pilot education program, which took place Sept. 13 aboard the OceanXplorer, focused on integrating quantum leadership principles into the OceanX Education program, a nonprofit initiative dedicated to developing the next generation of passionate ocean leaders to protect, preserve and harness our oceans for social and environmental impact. Delivered by No.17 Foundation’s sister nonprofit, Octave Institute, Quantum Leadership will provide the framework for fostering resilience, driving innovation, and ensuring sustainable growth. Following the pilot program, the partners will jointly work to develop an approach that brings quantum thinking to future ocean leaders, helping them develop new perspectives and empowering them to co-create innovative solutions for restoring nature.
Chavalit Frederick Tsao, TPC Chairman and Founder, No.17 Foundation, said, “We are excited about No.17 Foundation’s partnership with OceanX. This is the beginning of the journey of our two families to do more for our aspirations to finding a solution to restoring the ocean. More plans have been seeded to move forward and we will move step by step for the flourishing of the ocean. I salute Ray Dalio and Mark Dalio for their leadership for humanity.”
The partners also will work to collaboratively design and implement a long-term scientific research project that provides creative solutions to the challenges facing the ocean. This collaborative work will expand on No.17 Foundation’s early support of OceanX’s work in Southeast Asia during its recent mission in Indonesia, which provided critical research on megathrust zones, fishery biodiversity, and ecosystem biodiversity to inform local decision making for ocean conservation and sustainable management.
This multi-year partnership will leverage the expertise of both organizations and exemplifies the importance of strategic alliances in amplifying impact through the integration of diverse resources and expertise.
