An abundant ocean is the foundation of human health and prosperity.
Teeming with biodiversity and brimming with possible solutions to global challenges, the ocean holds a trove of opportunities we have yet to unlock. It sustains all life on Earth. It regulates our climate and produces the food we eat and the air we breathe. Yet, for all it gives us, humanity has explored less than 10% of the ocean — and we’ve taken far more than we’ve given back.
Our approach must change.
It’s time we shift our relationship of exploitation to one of mutual benefit. It’s time we work together to prioritize the ocean and its sustainable potential, so we can build a future where humanity and the ocean both thrive.
Through a dual focus on Science and Education, OceanX is building a new paradigm where humanity and the ocean mutually thrive. We partner with researchers, educators, and decision-makers worldwide to explore uncharted waters, expand global ocean literacy, and translate knowledge into solutions that both promote ocean health and enrich human lives.
Driven by the conviction that protecting the ocean protects our future, we leverage cutting-edge scientific and storytelling technologies to accelerate the solutions needed today – and build momentum to prioritize the ocean long term.
Delivering data and tools that support scientists and decision-makers in establishing and managing Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), which are key to preserving biodiversity and promoting food security and climate resilience.
Generating critical fishery data to guide policy, protect biodiversity, and secure food systems for the future.
Supporting research and innovation in areas such as marine biotechnology, regenerative aquaculture, blue carbon, and renewable energy to uncover and accelerate new ways to responsibly harness the ocean’s bounty.
Transforming how people around the world understand and relate to the ocean.
Building pathways for young people and early career professionals to explore ocean careers, learn new skills and build strong networks, and pioneer the next era of ocean stewardship.
Equipping people and institutions with the data, understanding, and collaborative platforms they need to make decisions that safeguard ocean health and human well-being.
Through collaborative partnerships with local governments, scientists, educators, nonprofits, and the private sector, we illuminate potential, bridge gaps in knowledge and capacity, and ignite local action on a global scale.
For the Red Sea Decade Expedition, we worked with scientists from King Abdullah University of Science and Technology to research the heat-resistant corals of the Red Sea, transforming local understanding and driving innovations in coral adaptation approaches.
Working with Konservasi Indonesia scientists during Mission Indonesia 2024, we collected data on key fisheries areas, which is informing recommendations for more effective management approaches.
OceanX missions are groundbreaking ocean expeditions aboard the OceanXplorer that combine advanced science, technology, and collaboration to deepen understanding of the ocean and drive solutions for its protection and sustainable use.
